About Kyudo in Queensland

What is Kyudo

Kyudo (弓道), meaning “the Way of the Bow”, is the Japanese martial art of archery. It is a modern continuation of traditional Japanese archery practices, developed to cultivate correct form, discipline, and character through the use of the yumi (Japanese longbow).

While Kyudo involves shooting arrows at a target, its primary purpose is not competition. Instead, Kyudo training emphasises correct posture, balanced movement, calm breathing, and focused intention. Through consistent practice, practitioners seek the integration of technique, mindset, and etiquette.

A commonly referenced expression in Kyudo is shin–zen–bi (truth, goodness, and beauty), reflecting the aim of achieving a sincere, ethical, and aesthetically correct shot
